Kuakata: Daughter of the Sea


Kuakata is a tourist center located in the Patuakhali district of southern Bangladesh. The name Kuakata is connected with the Arakanese people. In the 18th century, Arakanese arrived here after being expelled by the Mughals rulers. To fulfill the shortage of fresh water, they dug many wells. The word “Kua” comes from wells (Kup) and also the word “Kata” comes from dig. Thence its name is Kuakata.


It takes 6-7 hours to go to Kuakata from Dhaka by bus. Kuakata is full of tourist places. Such as Kuakata sea beach, Lebur Chor, Shutki Polli, Eco park, Buddhist Temple, Jhau bon, Narikel Bagan, Kawar chor, Gangamati forest, Fatrar chor and Kakra dip etc.

Kuakata sea beach is also known as the “Daughter of Sea” or “Sagar Kannya”. It is the main attraction of Kuakata as both sunrise and sunset can be seen from here. The beach is sandy and clean. There are speedboats and boats to explore the ocean. There are various kinds of trees and plants in Lebur chor like Goran, Golpata, Kerua, and so on. Shutki Polli is another popular place in Kuakata. It is on the way to Lebur chor. Different kinds of Shutki fishers are sold there at a reasonable price. Most of the visitors are mesmerized by the beauty of the Eco park. Another interesting thing is the Jhau bon near the beach. When the winds blow Jhau bon makes an incomparable scenery. Most of the people recommend Kawar chor to see the sunrise.  Gangamati forest is also known as the mangrove forest. Gangamati lake is the most attractive place there. Kakra dip is the place where thousands of crabs are found on the beach. Because of the crabs, the place looks so charming.

There are many motorcycles, autorickshaws and horse carriages on the beach to travel from tourist one place to another.  And many cameramen are there to click pictures of visitors. Moreover, there are various kinds of hotels and restaurants also available. Besides, the peoples of Kuakata are sweet and peaceful. In short, It is one of the most beautiful places in Bangladesh. The beauty of Kuakata cannot be described in words.

Nakshi Kantha : A Traditional Craft of Bangladesh

  Nakshi Kantha N akshi Kantha is one of the most popular traditional crafts of our country. It is a kind of embroidered quilt which is artistically made by rural women and girls.
